Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please bring your insurance card, a valid ID, a list of current medications, and any previous eye exam records if available. If you wear glasses or contacts, bring those as well so we can check your current prescription.

  • We accept most major insurance plans including Medicare and MassHealth. Please call our office at (617) 296-1828 to verify that we accept your specific plan. Our staff will be happy to check your coverage and explain your benefits.

  • For most adults, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam every 1-2 years. However, if you have diabetes, glaucoma, or other eye conditions, you may need more frequent visits. Children should have their first eye exam at 6 months, then at age 3, and before starting school.

  • An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in eye care and can perform surgery, such as cataract surgery. An optometrist (OD) provides primary vision care including eye exams and vision testing. At Eye Services Consultants, our board-certified ophthalmologists provide comprehensive medical and surgical eye care.
